Night hiking seemed like a good way to avoid the 95+ heat, but a thunderstorm forced me to stop at a shelter. Up at 4am to try again.

Hanging out at McAfee Knob for sunset. Amazing views with my fellow thru hikers, Switchback, Stetty Yetti, and Etch-a-Sketch.

Last night I took a zip line across a river to the Captain’s. A guy who lets hikers camp on his lawn and has a fridge of soda. Very cool.

Meant to leave town (Pearisburg, VA) today but wasted too much time. Glad I stayed, enjoyed a great fireworks show. No idea what it was for.

Got into Erwin, TN yesterday after a 27 mile day. After doing 22 and 18 the previous days, and feeling pretty good this morning I think my body might be ready for some real mileage. Its been cold for June down here, which hasn’t been fun. Three nights ago I used my brand new poncho-tarp as a shelter. I’ve learned that it does fine keeping rain from falling directly on top of you, but doesn’t help much for the rain that hits the ground and then splashes you with cold water and mud. Not much else to report, though hopefully I’ll have cell service soon and can post daily updates again.
Quote from a shelter two nights ago: “I’m not a crazy person, I don’t see ghosts a lot, just occasionally.”

Thanks for the locator and the update. I did two days, 22 mi each back to back, and it damn near killed me. So congrats. Remember you gotta be in PA by 14 Jul.
